Yangon to behavior personal survey to determine minimal wage


The Yangon Region government will conduct its very own survey starting next week to gather information that could assist in determining the country’s subsequent minimum wage, a local labour official stated Wednesday.

U Khin Maung Thwin, secretary of Minimum Wage Committee and local officer of Department of Labour, said the facts collection will start on Monday in six townships and records will be gathered for 18 days.

The townships where the survey could be performed are Hlaing Tharyar, Shwe Pyi Thar, Mingaladon, Dagon Myothit Seikkan, Dagon Myothit (East) and Thilawa Special Economic Zone.

It will prioritise records collecting on garment, meals and commodity sectors.

"We need to collect facts first. We can set a rate only when we recognise how much the labour value according to day,” said U Khin Maung Thwin. “We want to get the right facts from labour.”

Six organizations comprising of employer representatives, labour representatives, experts and people from departments within the Yangon Region Committee on Minimum Wage will conduct the survey.

The effects of the survey may be released at the cease of the month.

Under the country’s labour regulation the minimum wage needs to be reviewed each two years. The final minimum salary set at K4800 ($3.30) according to eight-hour paintings day was implemented in May 2018. A new salary can be set in May 2020.

The National Level Minimum Wage Committee, which incorporates representatives from employers, people and authorities, will discuss if the cutting-edge wage desires to be increased.

On Monday, the Confederation of Trade Union of Myanmar stated that it's going to push for the growth in minimum wage to K7200 for eight hour work.

But U Htet Hnin Aung, popular secretary of the Myanmar Craft & Services Trade Unions Federation, said that they could be undertaking their own have a look at and will come out with their personal proposal. - Translated
